They are outside the natural line of sight. Workers focus on the task in front of them and rarely look up, so suspended loads, loose tools overhead, and low beams blend into the background until an incident occurs. Deliberate overhead assessments are essential.

How do I protect workers passing beneath overhead work?

Reroute walkways away from the area, barricade a drop zone, install toe boards and netting, tether tools above, and use canopies where passage is unavoidable. Layered controls keep falling objects from reaching people below.

Do hard hats protect against dropped objects?
