1Potential Emergencies & Scenarios

Fall from Height / Suspension Trauma

Call for prompt rescue by trained, properly equipped personnel; a suspended worker may face a life-threatening emergency. Do not improvise rescue or rely on an arbitrary rescue time.

Trench or Excavation Collapse

Procedures for securing the area, stopping nearby vibration-causing equipment, and coordinating with specialized fire/rescue teams. (Never allow unauthorized personnel to enter the trench).

Crane or Scaffolding Failure

Evacuation of the fall radius, securing of the structural footprint, and accounting for personnel working on or under the structure.

Severe Weather / Lightning

Protocols for stopping crane operations, securing loose materials, and sheltering in grounded, enclosed structures (not under trees or incomplete frames).

2Roles & Responsibilities

Site Superintendent / General Contractor

  • Declare the emergency and sound the site-wide alarm (e.g., air horn, radio).
  • Order evacuation or shelter-in-place.
  • Serve as Incident Commander until emergency services arrive.

Trade Foremen

  • Account for all workers in their specific crew.
  • Report missing persons immediately to the Superintendent.
  • Perform only assigned, trained equipment shutdowns when conditions are safe.

Designated First Aid / CPR Responders

  • Provide immediate medical care within training limits.
  • Direct EMS to the specific location on the changing site plan.

3Alarm & Communication
